The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council of Castillejos has made strides to improve its disaster preparedness over the past months. Better equipment, more members, and more training has been paramount in the growth of the sector and the fruits of their hardwork shone during the multiple calamities that struck the small town of Castillejos over the course of 2018. First-aid trainings, and fire and earthquake drills were among the trainings and seminars that the MDRRMC conducted throughout the year inviting volunteers and increasing their members in the process.
Crowd control, proper equipment management, and proper staff deployment were just a few of several principles stressed during the trainings. But none has been more stressed during meetings than expecting the worst outcome. It has become a norm to expect landslides and flooding to occur in the far reaches of the town whenever a storm inches closer to affected areas close to the town. Calamities, big or small, cannot be exaggerated when lives are at risk which is why the same mentality applies even in relatively tame situations.
As a testament to the Municipality’s continued efforts to boost the efficiency of the municipality’s response during disasters it has procured a brand new Hyundai Rescue Truck. Emblazoned on the truck are the logo of the MDRRMC and the word “RESCUE” highlighting the importance of such procurement to the municipality.
